This 2-day course will ensure your are fully equipped to lead single-pitch sport routes!
The course takes place over 2 consecutive days (typically Saturday and Sunday). You select the date of the first day and the second day is automatically the next day.
COURSE CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES
- Knowing how to tie specific knots and set up climbing anchors
- Properly install SPORT climbing protection
- Rope Management in order to belay a leader and a second
- Being able to rappel safely
- Being able to clean a route

Pre-requisite
- Being certified and having experience lead climbing in a gym
If you do not lead climb in a gym, but are autonomous top roping outside, contact us to organize a custom course.
Day 1 schedule:
- 8:45 AM Reception at the LA LIBERTÉ NORD-SUD hut and hand-out of equipment
- Our hut is 200m from the parking; bring all your belongings
- 9:00-9:30 AM: Assesment of participants’ knowledge (knots, belays and rappelling concepts)
- 9:30 AM-4:00 PM: Practice and theory taught in workshops:
- Rock climbing standards and presentation of the equipment used – review of equipment
- Knots workshop (water knot, double fisherman’s, Prusik, etc.)
- The perfect anchor (number of anchor points, equalized, redundancy)
- Physics of potential falls
- Self-belay at cliff edge (fixed rope, prusik, rappel, etc.)
- Setting up an anchor on trees and bolts
- Rappelling set-up and techniques
- 4:00-4:30 PM: Review of the day and conclusion
- 4:30-5:00 PM: Equipment return and end of day
- Less than 20 minutes, up to a 100m of high difference and 500m of hike to reach the differents crags
Day 2 schedule:
- 8:45 AM: Reception at the LA LIBERTÉ NORD-SUD cabin and hand-out of equipment
- 9:00-11:00 AM: Assessment of participants’ knowledge (knots, belays and rappelling concepts)
- 11:00 AM-4:00 PM: Practice and theory taught in workshops:
- Lead climbing practice and fall practice
- Perfect anchor and multi-pitch belay stations
- Rope management at belay stations
- Physics of potential falls
- Lead climbing (with top-rope backup and/or protections already in place)
- Using a Clip Stick
- Using a OHM
- 4:00-4:30 PM: Feedback about the day and conclusion
- 4:30-5:00 PM: Equipment return and end of day
