This special group rate cannot be combined with any other discount.
Each monitor can supervise 3 ropes. We recommend a maximum of 9 participants per instructor. Depending on your number of participants, we can offer you the services of several monitors.
COURSE CONTENT
- Discover ice climbing and ice-climbing equipment
- Basic techniques for belaying and lowering
- Learn basic movements for ice climbing
- Climbing communication and safety instructions
- Supervised climb
- A little bit of effort and a lot of fun
The Introduction to Ice climbing includes :
- AGMA-certified and/or FQME-certified instructor
- Ice-climbing equipment (including boots)
- Free for accompanying teacher(s)/person(s) in charge
Not included :
- Tip for your instructor
- Entrance fees to the Montagne d’Argent park:
- Regular rate: $14 taxes included per person
- Private high schools, CEGEPs, universities: $10 taxes included per person
- Public high schools: $7 taxes included per person
Minimum age
- 12 years old
Prerequisites: None
Schedule for the day (typical day, can be changed based on your needs):
- 9:45: Welcome reception at the LA LIBERTÉ NORD-SUD mountain hut and hand out equipment
- 10:30: Technical training and demonstration
- 11:00–15:30: Supervised climbs and instructor feedback
- 15:30: End of climbing and return to the mountain hut
- 16:00: Departure
Course cancellation due to weather conditions
The outing could be cancelled if the forecast calls for more than a 60% chance of rain and an accumulation of 10 mm or more or if the thermometer displays below -25C (actual temperature , not “feels like”) for the majority of the duration of the activity. The decision can be made the day prior to the activity at the latest. Please note that we rarely cancel this course completely due to weather conditions.
If you cancel for any other reason with less than 7 days notice, a $150 fee will be charged.

Personal gear to bring
- Lunch and snacks
- 1 litre of water or hot beverage
- Synthetic clothing (that dries quickly) for your base layer
- Polar-fleece jacket
- Windproof, soft-shell or waterproof jacket
- Down jacket (with or without sleeves – recommended) – to keep you warm when we’re not moving
- Day backpack (30–40 litres)
- Tuque, scarf, mittens and gloves (2 pairs)
- Old ski pants or outdoor pants (high probability of tearing your pants with crampons)
- Gaiters (recommended to protect pants)
- One pair of warm socks
- Change of clothes for the trip home
- Lip balm and sunscreen
- Sunglasses or ski goggles
- Camera
OPTIONAL personal gear to bring (for your safety, we believe you should always have these items when venturing outdoors):
- Basic first aid kit
- Flashlight (headlamp, if possible)
